The Big City Diner concept was developed by Mr. Lane T. Muraoka, a local boy from Kailua who attended Iolani School. Mr. Muraoka originally began in the restaurant industry as a young man working as a dishwasher for a prominent local restaurant chain and eventually opened the first Big City Diner in 1998. Since then our small, locally owned and operated business has grown from our first restaurant in Kaimuki to several restaurants island wide. The success of our business is due to the hard work and dedication of our now over 350 employees.

Dave & Busters
In the late 70's in Little Rock, Arkansas, two establishments existed side by side in location but worlds apart in concept.
Inside the classic setting of the Missouri Pacific Train Station, two very different establishments enjoyed a brisk trade. A man named Buster ran a favorite watering hole. Buster's restaurant boasted casual elegance, warm historic ambience and wonderful eclectic food served up by some of the friendliest people in town.
Next door another man was also enjoying a bustling business. Dave ran "Slick Willy's World of Entertainment." Here people were almost irresistibly drawn by his selection of outrageous fun and games for big people. These two young entrepreneurs and neighbors became fast friends.

Leonard's Bakery
In June 1882 the British sailing ship 'Monarch' brought Arecnion & Amelia DoRego from San Miguel Island, Portugal to Maui under contract to work the sugar cane fields.
Some 33 years later, their grandson Leonard was born. In 1946 Leonard and his wife Margaret moved to Honolulu with their daughter Diane, age 8. Leonard worked at Snowflake Bakery until he founded Leonard's Bakery in 1952
Leonard and Margaret were no strangers to hard work, both coming from very large families. The bakery prospered. Not long after opening, Leonard's mother suggested making malasadas for Shrove Tuesday - a Portuguese tradition.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu
The brainchild of Honolulu Judge Gerald R. Corbett, several of Hawaii's community leaders, including George Schnak, the late Henry Damon and the late Ernest Kai met in Judge Corbett's chambers with a common concern, the direction in which many of Hawaii's youth were headed. Corbett, a Juvenile Court Judge saw first-hand that one-half of the boys who stepped into his courtroom came from broken homes. The meeting of this civic-minded group led to the forming of an organization where men could volunteer their time with "fatherless" boys and provide a positive male role model through individualized friendship and ideally turn this trend around. In March of 1963, the Big Brothers program was officially incorporated.
